Root canal surgery
Endodontics or root canal procedures are carried out to replace nerve tissue in a tooth root which has become diseased.
The symptoms normally present as sensitivity to pressure on the tooth, and pain which can become severe. If left untreated, the tooth may eventually have to be removed.
The dentist will remove the infected tissue and drain any abscesses, clean the cavity and fill it with an inert substance. After treatment, the tooth may require a crown for support.
